At Vom Hognadottir, breeding Rottweiler and German Shepherd dogs is something we take seriously. We do not approach each litter simply as another group of puppies. Considerable thought goes into deciding which dogs should be bred, what each pairing can contribute, and how the resulting puppies can carry forward the qualities we value in these two remarkable breeds.
Our goal has always been to produce Rottweiler puppies and German Shepherd puppies with sound temperaments, good health, strong character, and the structure and working qualities called for by their respective breed standards. We strive to stay as close as possible to the official AKC written standard while also keeping an eye on the traits that make a dog enjoyable to live with and capable of doing meaningful work.
Our experience with German Shepherds and Rottweilers extends well beyond simply raising dogs. I am a longtime member of the SV (German Shepherd Dog Club of Germany) and a member of the ARV (American Rottweiler Verein) and Schutzhund USA. Our Rottweiler puppies and German Shepherd puppies are AKC registered, with some also dual registered with the German SV and FCI.
Health is another important part of our breeding decisions. Our Rottweiler and German Shepherd dogs have hips certified through OFA, German SV, or FCI as applicable. We understand that choosing a puppy is a long-term commitment, which is why we put considerable attention into the dogs behind each litter.
Many of the Rottweiler and German Shepherd dogs in our kennel come from respected European show and working lines. We have even traveled to Germany ourselves to hand-select working dogs with bloodlines that could complement our breeding program. For us, bringing a new dog into the program is not about adding another name to a pedigree. The dog needs to bring something worthwhile to the next generation.
